Homeowners can file petitions rather than pay attorney fees.


The state of Arizona will soon offer a new way for homeowners to settle disputes with homeowners associations. Earlier this month, Gov. Janet Napolitano signed a bill allowing homeowners to enlist the state’s help if they have a conflict with a homeowners association, also known as an HOA. The new law also allows HOAs to ask the state to require uncooperative homeowners to follow association rules.

“This is the most important piece of (state) legislation to be passed regarding HOAs in the last 10 years,” said Pat Haurff, president of the Arizona-based Coalition of Homeowners for Rights and Education.
