Residents seek CA voting rights Lillian and Henry Shapiro would like the chance to vote directly on important issues presented to the Columbia Association. But the way Columbia is now governed, only the 10 elected members of the Columbia Council - one from each of the village associations - have a voting seat on the Columbia Association board, which makes policy and spending decisions for CA. “We feel that residents should have the right to vote on crucial issues that affect them, and they also should be able to bring up issues to be voted on,” said Lillian Shapiro, a…

The Louisiana Attorney General’s office has closed its investigation of a 74-unit condo association in eastern New Orleans and given the group a clean bill of health.
The probe began after some residents accused the Chimneywood Homeowners Association of unfair business practices and racial discrimination.
The attorney general investigated three issues, including claims the 28-year-old development collected association fees but did not buy required insurance. Investigators also looked into income generated by the clubhouse and the hiring and compensation of Chimneywood’s property manager.
Finding nothing illegal, the attorney general closed the file, according to a Dec. 3 letter from the state Department of…

Board Gives City Conservation Plan
Towne Park residents treasure their green lawns and lush parks, but they are also doing their part to save water, subdivision officials say.

“We’re doing everything possible to solve all the water problems,” said resident and former board member Joseph Gironda.
The homeowners association handed the…

As the community of Venice Gardens grows older, the people who call it home are growing younger.
“We have a lot more younger families moving into the area,” said Linda Lukas, 54, who has served as past president of the Venice Gardens Home Owners Association for three separate terms.
Lukas moved to the area 14 years ago from New Jersey with her husband and then 10-year-old son.
“When we moved to Venice Gardens, my son was the only kid in a two-mile area,” Lukas said. “Now the number of children living in…

Homes in Fountainview at Parkway can have an Ohio State University flag, but only on game days during football season. There can be no swing sets, wreaths, flower pots or wind chimes in the Grove City subdivision. Hanging laundry outside is a no-no. And no one can change the tan paint on a home or leave anything outside that could clash with the color. One resident, however, is rebelling against the enforcement of a rule prohibiting anything from being affixed to a home’s exterior. Randy Young says the homeowners association went too far by having the property manager send him a…

For her 60th birthday, Agnes Bambu’s son, Rocko, surprised her with a 3-foot-tall Virgin Mary statue.
“He said, ‘Mom, look at what you got!’” said Bambu, 80. “I was so happy.”
Through 20 years of Pennsylvania snow and then Florida sun, the statue has stood outside her family’s home.
But now, the homeowners’ association at Mote Ranch, the deed-restricted community where she lives, wants the statue removed or hidden from view.
“I don’t think…
