The homeowners association of Centex Homes’ Sandpiper Bay development in Sunset Beach, N.C., has been selected as North Carolina’s Association of the Year by the Community Associations Institute’s (CAI) N.C. Chapter. Sandpiper Bay Homeowners Association (HOA) was selected from 25 nominees in the mid-sized HOA category. The award was based on the operation of the association, including the financial condition and the establishment of an adequate reserve fund for repair and replacement of major capital assets. The North Carolina CAI Recognition Committee cited Centex Homes’ emphasis on communications with the homeowners as a factor in the award. At Sandpiper Bay, residents are invited to board meetings and have the option of speaking during open forums. Also, the HOA maintains a Web site, regularly viewed by 80 percent of residents, and mails a monthly newsletter to each home.
